Jezahel: The Vampires Can’t Weld

If you fancy reliving your clubbing days this weekend, Jezahel is the way to do it. Can a band of ageing ravers stay up past their bedtime to try to save the day? This one-hour play delves deep into 90s nostalgia and hammers a square peg into the circle of life. Molly, Phil, Mandy, Top Knot and Disco are desperate to relive their clubbing youth so they head out after dark for the first time in too long. However, the music’s too loud and they just don’t get what the kids are into these days. Go see it, you won’t regret it.

Electric Picnic

16-18 August, Stradbally, Laois, more info here

A weekend that requires little introduction, EP is a music and arts festival looked forward to by many, despite the annual likelihood of muckiness. This year’s headliners are Kylie Minogue, Noah Kahan, and Calvin Harris, with plenty of superb homegrown talent making appearances across the weekend, including the likes of Kneecap, The Scratch, Jazzy, and NewDad.

The Defender Puissance & Rolex Grand Prix Series at the Dublin Horse Show

17 August, The RDS, Dublin, more info here

This year, the Defender Puissance celebrates its 20th year of sponsorship as it returns to the Dublin Horse Show with a bigger presence than ever before. On each day of the show, visitors to the Family Area can enjoy a unique drive experience in Mini Defenders. Kids with an appetite for adventure can get behind the wheel of a miniature Defender as they learn to steer and navigate a bespoke course designed just for them. The Defender Puissance wall starts at a height of 1.80m, which steadily climbs for each round until it reaches the dizzying height of 2.20m. Each competing horse must clear the Defender Puissance wall, leading to an exciting knock-out finish and it is always a crowd pleaser on Saturday.

On Sunday, all show jumping aficionados will be eagerly awaiting the Rolex Grand Prix. Held in the main arena, which is a world-renowned grass track, the Grand Prix has been a fixture since 1934. Anyone who grew up attending the Dublin Horse Show will remember equestrian legends such as Eddie Macken, the Whitaker brothers, Nick Skelton and Jessica Kuerten in action over the years. As part of the Rolex Grand Prix series, this year’s Irish team has already competed in Rome, La Baule and Dinard as part of the series. Visitors can look forward to cheering on their riders compete for the record prize fund of €500,000 on Sunday afternoon.
