Wicklow villages get the Disney treatment as filming for ‘Disenchanted’ continues
04th Jul 2021
We’ve been welcoming many a famous face to our lovely green shores in recent weeks as filming for Disney’s ‘Disenchanted’ gets underway in various locations across the country.
Hollywood and its stars have long been a source of unending interest to us mere mortals. Between high-profile romances, celebrity scandals and friendship fallouts, there’s little we love more than hearing about what the who’s who of the silver screen world are up to – all the more so when there’s an Irish connection. Last summer, Matt Damon and his SuperValu bag were all we could talk, think or write about… this summer, it’s the Disenchanted cast.
Descending upon our shores to film scenes for the upcoming sequel to the Disney flick Enchanted, much of the country has been busy trying to catch a glimpse of the movie’s main characters Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. While Ms Adams has been keeping relatively quiet since arriving in Ireland, McDreamy has been spotted out and about on numerous occasions – rocking an authentic Aran knit and Paddy cap, getting to know the neighbours and suit shopping in Dublin’s fair city.
Spending the large majority of his time over in Wicklow for filming though, both Enniskerry and Greystones have been given the Disney treatment to ensure they’re in good nick for Andalasia’s finest. Shooting officially kicked off this morning with several photos of the newly Disney-fied villages being shared online and no doubt Giselle had some input when it came to decorating as pastels, bunting and brightly coloured flowers reign supreme.

In other Disney-related news, the first set pics for the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid are here too. Featuring quite the all-star cast, Halle Bailey takes on the beloved role of Ariel alongside Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Other big names to make an appearance throughout include Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy who plays Ursula, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
Already on-location over in Sardinia, Italy, fans were given a sneak peek at what’s to come thanks to several leaked photos of the two leads doing their thing. Spotted rehearsing on the beach for an upcoming scene, Halle can be seen donning a CG wetsuit which will be transformed into her character’s famous mermaid tail in post-production.

Initially set to debut on cinema screens in March 2020, filming had to be pushed out due to the pandemic. Only getting things underway again as of earlier this month, the cast and crew are busy trying to catch up on lost time, but we’ll have to wait another while yet until the movie is ready for release. No official premiere date has been announced but we reckon sometime in 2022 is probably the likeliest bet.
