Ahead of?the Boots Summer Beauty Weekender, we caught up with skincare expert and Saturday’s act, Elizabeth Whelan.
When did you first fall in love with beauty?
My love for beauty began in my late teens. My mother was a great admirer and fan of one of the world’s greatest icons ?Elizabeth Taylor?. We regularly watched some of her memorable films and I remember being in awe of her natural beauty.
My first permanent job was a full-time skin care assistant in Smiths chemist on Grafton Street in Dublin. Smiths was one of Irelands leading pharmacy outlets at that time, which specialised in luxury skin care brands. I had a passion for learning more and enrolled in a beauty therapy college. Since then I progressed my beauty career with companies such as the Arnott group, Lancome, Clarins and Nuxe.
What skincare regime should you never skip?
Cleansing the skin and removing your make-up efficiently is the golden rule of a good skin care regime. Pollution particles are in the air and adhere to our moist skins, it is essential to remove these pollution particles as they break down the skin’s protective layers and leads to premature ageing. I recommend cleansing the skin twice daily. Toning is another essential to refine the pores and remove any last traces of makeup that has been missed by your cleanser.
Skin serum is also vital; especially for over 40’s. A serum can be applied prior to application of a day or night cream.
What’s the best way to boost your wellbeing?
In my opinion, the best way to boost your wellness is by following the 6 Zestivo’s pillars of health: good self-care, maintaining a good diet, keeping hydrated, exercising regularly, de-stressing, and setting goals. Following these steps will help keep you healthy, motivate you, and give you a focused purpose to life.
What’s the greatest wellbeing related advice you ever received?
I have been given some great wellbeing advice but one of the most profound and important things I have learnt is how powerful my thoughts are. Within 90 seconds of having any thought, the brain releases chemicals along the meridian lines of the body into the organs, bones, joints, tissues and tendons. This affects how healthy and vibrant the body’s cells are. This information changed everything for me. When I have a negative thought I use a cancel, clear and delete technique which helps. I catch myself with the negative thought and I say ?cancel, clear and delete that thought? and I replace it with a positive thought or image. ?You cannot live a positive life, with a negative mind?
