This week, Gigi Hadid was photographed wandering around NYC with signature blonde, flowing hurr, cheese grater abs and… grey lipstick.
Out of this world Space Age fashion and beauty is coming soon to carefully-algorithimic-curated Instagram feed near you. We saw it when Chanel launched a rocket at the AW17 show amongst a cast of models in space boots and astronaut prints , when Bill Nye The Science Guy and Buzz Aldrin walked the runway at Nick Grahams NYFW Men’s Show, ?when Christopher Kane brought his own cosmic twist with models in spaceship dresses. We saw it when Bella Hadid walked the Maison Margiela haute couture catwalk in Pat McGrath’s most futuristic look and we’ll see it again when we figure out what?Kanye West For Astronaut turns out to be, if anything.
Perhaps the fashion and beauty worlds are suffering from what Vanity Fair Editor in Chief Graydon Carter called P.T.S.D. – President Trump Stress Disorder – coupled with the 2016 loss of the men who proved there is no one way to be a man, Prince and Bowie – Ziggy Stardust, Blackstar, Space Oddity, Starman – and maybe the worlds of fashion and beauty are trying to take us to literally another planet.
Or maybe our collective affinity for mythical creatures and mystical worlds like space, unicorns and mermaids is from the lack of a divine nature in our animalistic culture? Then we bastardized that too and plastered unicorns and mermaids on phone cases and make up bags and then we paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Hey, lemme know what you think in the comments below.
For now, back to Gigi’s lipstick.
Her makeup artist, on Erin Parsons hinted on Insta?that the Maybelline lipstick might be?launching soon starring Gigi.
Grey lipstick has been seen on the typically adventurous lips of Rihanna, Kesha and Kylie Jenner but aside for those ladies, it’s hard to find a lot of grey lipstick inspiration before Gigi Hadid.
NYX Macaron Lippie in Black Sesame, above, is a pretty perfect pastel with a lilac undertone, if you’re looking to imitate, with a satin matte finish.
The real question here:
How to do grey lipstick without looking like the undead?
Copy Gigi and go for a’dewy, bronzed complexion and swap your darker eyeshadows for peachy, natural and glossy lids.
