The IMAGE team is obsessed with this €20 coloured eyeliner

The IMAGE team is obsessed with this €20 coloured eyeliner

A trio of non-experimental IMAGE staffers have converted to fluorescent, coloured eyeliner and it’s all down to this wonder product.

Having firmly avoided brightly coloured eyeliner after a decade of teenage frosted pastels that were all a definite mistake, I choose the bubblegum pink shade Cute Ting of Fenty Beauty’s Flypencil on a whim the day it launched. Ever since, my make-up has been entirely transformed. I’ve worn green eyeliner, white eyeliner and yellow eyeliner in the few weeks since I first stepped away from muted brown eyeshadow.

I knew, when I first reviewed the Fenty Beauty Flypencil Longwear Pencil Eyeliner, which comes in a rainbow of 20 shades, that it deserved all the hype. First of all, it doesn’t drag like other pencil eyeliners, it glides into a perfect wing. Secondly, the pigment is like no other eye product I’ve tried — Fenty Beauty Flypencil is as pigmented on the first swipe as it is on the third. Thirdly and most importantly, it lasted perfectly on me all day. Didn’t budge. But it’s easy to be a beauty editor and decide to come to work in electric pink eyeliner. So when other IMAGE staffers started sporting neon wings, and enthusing about the pigment and lasting power of the Fenty Beauty Flypencil, I knew we were on to a winner.

Here’s how my colleagues (who both, interestingly chose the vivid, matte blue shade Lady Lagoon) got on…

“I am not one to veer away from my usual black liquid liner. It’s something I’ve always been really comfortable with and I guess, at this stage, it’s my go-to make-up look. However, (and this is a big ‘however’) when IMAGE Beauty Editor Holly walked into the office one morning with a flick of pastel pink on her eyelids, I was officially converted to the world of colourful eyeliners. I decided to try and test the Fenty Beauty eyeliners to figure out which shade would suit me the most.

I had initially intended to purchase the Cute Ting pink liner that Holly had worn but quickly realised it wouldn’t have the same effect on my brown eyes. I ended up going for the Lady Lagoon turquoise shade. I absolutely love it and I really feel it gives my eyes such a pop. It’s possibly the easiest product to use and I highly recommend it for something fun and different. My only negative would be it did smudge on my eyelids by the end of the day but honestly, I have really oily skin so this is a general concern I have with all beauty products.” – Sophie Teyssier, Social Media Manager

Art Director Laura Kenny wearing Fenty Beauty Flypencil in Lady Lagoon

“I’m not usually too experimental with my eye make-up and usually spend more hours watching make-up artists on Instagram applying the latest bright colours than having a go at it myself. I’ve always loved a bright lip, but I’m making 2020 the year I get more adventurous with my eye make-up. Easing myself in, I think a graphic line of colour seems like a good place to start.  Just like the Mean Girls’ character, I saw Holly O’Neill wearing Fenty Flypencil eyeliner, so I went out and bought Fenty Flypencil eyeliner. I got the Lady Lagoon shade, which seems to be a hit in the IMAGE office and I can see why. The pencil is slightly soft so it applies nice and smooth and is small enough to allow a more precise line. I’m looking forward to playing around with more shades and the fun of having a new way to add colour on days when my outfit isn’t so bright.”– Laura Kenny, Art Director
