My Life In Beauty: Lesley Keane, senior artist at MAC Cosmetics

Lesley Keane, senior artist at MAC Cosmetics, who’s worked with the brand since it first opened in Dublin in 1997, shares her beauty essentials with HOLLY O’NEILL.

I LIKE THAT TRENDS ARE NOW EMBRACING INDIVIDUALITY,
where real women can take elements and incorporate them into their daily make-up routines. I love the idea of clashing colours that don’t normally go together. It gives you a more eclectic look, wearing a pink outfit and throwing on a red lipstick.

THE BEAUTY TREND I’D LIKE EVERYONE TO LEAVE BEHIND IS…
baking – unless you’re a drag performer, this is not a good look in daylight.

THE FIRST BEAUTY PRODUCT I EVER BOUGHT WAS…
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Heather Shimmer with Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lipliner in Black Tulip – the same as every other 1990s teenager. I thought I was the bee’s knees.

THE WORST BEAUTY MISTAKE I EVER MADE WAS…
using Sudocrem as a white foundation topped with talc as a powder when I was a punk teenager. There was no pale foundation on the market at the time in the ’90s, so I had to be creative, and I wore it every day until my mother convinced me that Sudocrem promotes facial hair growth.

THE GREATEST TIME FOR BEAUTY WAS…
The 1970s, for ultra-glam disco to pared-back boho beauty. Just timeless.

EVERYONE SHOULD TRY…
Tom Ford Traceless Foundation, €77, at least once – it’s like an invisible dream coverage.
