Not sure which Zara x Jo Malone candle to buy? We’ve matched them with similarly scented famous fragrances
The adored Jo Malone scents created in partnership with Zara could only have been improved upon by coming in candle form. Having universally delighted with her 8-strong collection of Zara Emotions fragrances from her first retail collaboration, the perfumer has now done just that.
At bargainous prices, just like their perfume counterparts, the scented candles are €15.95 each for a hefty 200g size, and just as gorgeous, luxurious and with all of Jo Malone’s trademark light and expensive scent.
While Zara remains closed, leaving you without the option of sniffing the bunch to choose your favourite, the online store is still open for deliveries. If you’re looking to upgrade your WFH space but didn’t get to try a whiff of the perfume version first time round, we’ve paired each scented candle with another famous fragrance you might know.
The Vetiver Pamplemousse candle might be the most obviously Jo Malone of the bunch. It has all her signature lightness, the same sandy beach sunny scent of her beloved Jo Loves Pomelo fragrance, with the same citrusy grapefruit. If you’re unsure about vetiver, you might be convinced if you’ve ever tried Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver, which like Vetiver Pamplemousse, also contains grapefruit and woody vetiver.
If you’re looking for a new sun-drenched summer scent, this is the one you want to transform your home into the Italian coast. With bergamot, mandarin, basil and orange flower, this blend of orange heaven is most like another iconic Jo Malone London scent you’ve probably known and loved, the fresh and floral Basil and Neroli.
If you love the light and creamy musk of Glossier You, you’ll like Waterlily Tea Dress. It’s just as clean and fresh with the added warmth of spearmint and balmy bergamot.
Bohemian Bluebells is bold and earthy with the woodiness of sandalwood, lazy lavender and warm musk; think Byredo’s Blanche.
The rich and deep Ebony Wood is more wintery than the rest of the bunch, but no less delicious; leathery ebony wood, cloves and spicy pink peppercorn makes this a luxe, powerful scent similar to Emporio Armani men’s Stronger With You.
Fleur D’Oranger is a sun-drenched aromatic sent with a crowd-pleasing combination of sweet fruity floral ylang-ylang and zesty orange flower and neroli, a blend also found in Chanel No. 5, but think more along the citrusy lines of Paris – Venise from Les Eaux de Chanel.
Fleur de Patchouli’s sweet and powdery floral wood is summed up by Jo Malone as “the spirit of a night out with rock and roll blasting through the speakers”: think of the warmth of White Patchouli by Tom Ford.
If you love Carnal Flower by Frederic Malle, you love tuberose, as Carnal Flower has the highest concentration of tuberose in the perfume industry. Zara’s Tubereuse Noir is a diluted honeyed flower, but still a powerful scent, with added sandalwood and ylang-ylang, a combination also found in Chanel’s Gabrielle.
