In 2019, Caoimhe de Fréin was first introduced to vision boards by her manager in her tech job. As a data leader with an engineering background, she was initially sceptical. However, given the opportunity to create her first vision board, she embraced it. That simple A3 collage mapped out her goals and dreams for the year ahead. Seven years later, she continues this annual ritual – each year growing bolder, brighter and more intentional.

Her vision board led to the creation of DEFRÉIN, a sustainable jewellery business that gained recognition in The Irish Times and Irish Country Magazine. Balancing a full-time job and three children, her vision board for the following year focused on boundaries. By 2023, it carried a new raw and daring intention: ‘Unleash your imagination and create your dream job.’

Not only did she decide to leave the security of her tech job but she also parted ways with the jewellery aspect of her company that year also, when its creation became mundane. Instead, she decided to follow her true passion full-time: helping others design lives they love.
