It’s that time of the year again, when almost 2,000 Irish wine lovers gather for the O’Briens Winter Wine Festival, Ireland’s largest wine event. And this year we have a mega prize to give away to one lucky reader.
With over 75 of the world’s best winemakers opening 340 exciting wines from across the globe, the O’Briens Wine Festival is a great way to reacquaint yourself with old favourites, as well as explore new regions and grape varieties in a casual, relaxed setting.
Taking place on Thursday, November 7, in the Clayton Hotel Cork, and on Friday November 8 and Saturday November 9 in the Printworks, Dublin Castle, guests will have the unique opportunity to meet the producers of your favourite wines: from Barossa to Bordeaux, Mendoza to Marlborough and everywhere in-between.
There will also be a suite of masterclasses not to be missed, conducted by our winemaker partners. And IMAGE has teamed up with O’Briens to give one lucky reader the chance to win six bottles that are featured at this weekend’s festival.
Some of these, available from O’Briens Wines, include:
Contrapunto Albariño 2018: a customer favourite produced by pioneering Galician Bodega Granbazán located in the Salnés Valley in the heart of Rías Baixas. It has a fine and floral fresh fruity
aroma. On the palate it displays vibrant greengage, peach and citrus fruits, refreshing acidity and a saline minerality on the persistent finish
Monte Real Reserva 2015: Bodegas Riojanas was founded in 1890 and is steeped in Rioja’s history. This flagship Reserva is made with 100% Tempranillo grapes sourced from the premium Cenicero vineyards. It is aged for 24-30 months in American oak casks before resting in bottle for at least 12 months before release. Traditional Rioja flavours of ripe strawberry and blackberry, a silky-smooth palate with layers of vanilla and sweet spice before a lovely savoury finish with fine oak lingering in the background. This is an impressive traditional Rioja Reserva.
Guerrieri Rzzardi Pinot Grigio: Guerrieri Rizzardi is the result of the union between two venerable winemaking families that date back to the 17th century. Their single-estate Pinot Grigio expresses the result of generations of winemaking knowledge. This is Pinot Grigio as it is meant to be: bursting with ripe pear and peachy fruit before a touch of honey and spice on the long fresh finish.
Over the weekend, you can expect an in-depth look at the terroir of Burgundy or learn of the pergolas of Rías Baixas, and you will have the opportunity to hear the winemakers talk about what makes their specific region, grapes, soil and climate unique. It is a rare opportunity to taste the wines with the person who nurtured the wine from grape to glass.
Every festival ticket holder will also get a free Tipperary Crystal wine glass to take home and all proceeds from the event will go to O’Briens charity partners.
