If you’re willing to take on a bit of a project, these properties in Co Waterford have great potential as well as being great value.
When house hunting, there’s usually things you’d change about every property you view. Maybe you’re wondering how much it would cost to replace that scruffy carpet that seems to be in every room, or you wish the previous owners hadn’t split a large bedroom into two smaller ones. You inevitably end up trying to balance what you can afford to change, and what you’ll have to live with for a while.
The beauty of a fixer-upper, however, is that you’re probably going to have to change most things, so everything can be done exactly as you’d want, from new kitchen tiles to getting rid of the porch. This is taken into account in the price, too, meaning there are real bargains to be had out there if you’re not afraid of a project.
To give you a bit of inspiration, we’ve found three in County Waterford, all under €100,000, so you’ll definitely have budget left to totally transform them.
21 St Bridget Terrace, Dungarvan, €95,000
In the popular harbour town of Dungarvan, with its many shops and restaurants, this home is just a few minutes walk from the sea. Dungarvan is located 40 minutes from Waterford city and an hour from Cork city, making it suitable for commuters to either city.
This three bedroom house has a spacious living and kitchen space, and a garden to the rear. Although in definite need of renovation, it doesn’t appear to require any major work, so it’s a good option if this would be the first project you’ve tackled. With some work, it could make a lovely family home, and gives its new owners the chance to put their own stamp on the property.
Barrack Street, Passage East, €80,000
Located in the beautiful fishing village of Passage East, this former Post Office has been converted into a residential home. It will need significant further work to make it a comfortable home, but with stone walls, sash windows and high vaulted ceilings on the first floor, it has the potential to become a very special one.
Perfect for those who love to live close to water, this property has two bedrooms and one bathroom, as well as the option to keep the ground floor as a self-contained unit.
Main Street, Tallow, €97,500
With four bedrooms and three storeys, this townhouse is an absolute steal for its size, also boasting a beautiful stone courtyard to the rear with several outbuildings. The interior certainly needs an aesthetic update, but this could easily become a wonderful family home with plenty of character.
It’s located in the town centre of Tallow, with easy access to the surrounding towns, and is within an hour’s drive of Cork city.
