Why we’re making 9 Below our go-to cocktail bar for 2019

Have you noticed bars in Dublin have started to feel a bit samey? Same owners, same decor, same crowd. For 2019, we’ve got our eyes set on something different.

Nestled in a basement opposite Stephen’s Green, 9 Below is one of the city’s hidden gems. Its beautifully designed bar offers four cosy rooms, each one giving a sense of privacy and charm. It’s our go-to place for cocktails this year.

What to expect

Enter via a flight of steps, at the bottom of which, a member-of-staff will welcome you inside.

Soft lighting, painted-brick walls and ceiling arches give the place a warm feel, while the furnishings and drinks menu are chic and contemporary. As you sit back and relax in a quiet snug – whether you’re there with friends or on a date – indulge your taste buds in the enticing selection of cocktails.

WIN: Cocktails at 9 Below for four people
up to the value of €200

As do the trees outside, the cocktail menu changes with the seasons. The winter offering of Pillow Talk (€12), which includes Tanqueray No TEN gin, Martini Bianco, strawberry and basil, fresh citrus, whites, and rose mist; must be enjoyed before spring.

So too must Peach & Love (€14); made from Don Julio Anejo tequila, lime, peach, honey Fino sherry, violet, Prosecco, and mezcal mist. A varied selection of wines, spirits and beers are available too.

9 Below

A cut above the rest

Aside from the bar’s relaxed atmosphere, 9 Below’s staff is what sets it apart from its competitors. Each drink is handcrafted with care by fun-loving bartenders, all of whom really know their craft. If you’re not sure what to order, they’re always on-hand to offer recommendations.

What’s more, table service makes ordering easy and the experience relaxing; there’s no need to leave your table to go and queue at the bar. The set-up is designed with customer-experience at the fore.

With DJs at the weekends and some pretty sexy shot glasses, we like to party at 9 Below – and everyone’s invited.

Booking is recommended but not essential, and walk-ins are encouraged.
