Advent calendars have become a lot more interesting over the years. What used to be a chocolate-filled treat for children has now become a lust-worthy gift for adults; Aldi’s new addition is proof of that.

On Sunday the 4th of November, Aldi Ireland will launch its wine-filled advent calendar for Christmas 2018. Presented in a beautifully decorated box of navy and gold, 24 doors reveal rather special, alcoholic treats.
Open one door per day in the lead up to Christmas and discover a mix of red, white and rosé wines, as well as a few bottles of bubbly.
Aldi’s drink expert Tom Doorley said, “A truly adult advent calendar featuring quality wines is a brilliant way to expand your horizons – and in a way that encourages responsible consumption. Prepare to be introduced to a whole range of wine experiences; some new, some unexpected!”
The calendar, which is priced at €69.99, contains twenty 18.7cl bottles and four 20cl bottles of wine; meaning each bottle comes in at under €3 each.
This isn’t the first time the supermarket has sold a wine advent calendar, having first launched the product in Christmas 2017. John Curtin, the company’s group buying director said it’s, “Back by popular demand”, adding that its new design is perfect for a table centrepiece. “What could be better for getting in the Christmas spirit than an adult advent calendar full of wonderful wine?”
