Tried & Tested: A Quick Fix For Digital Eye-Strain

Tired? Headache-y? Insomniac? Maybe you’re suffering from digital eye strain, thanks to all those pesky screens you’re glued to all day.

If like us, you spend most of your days glued to screens in various shapes and sizes, you’ve probably experienced dry eyes, headaches, sleep disruption or eye fatigue aka digital eye-strain at some stage. They’re all caused by the effects of prolonged exposure to blue light, which is emitted from these screens.

Here at Image, our days consist of working in front of computer screens all day long so when we found out an Irish start-up had created a collection of anti-eye strain specs, we were eager to try them. Ambr Eyewear founders Daniel Nugent and Sacha Cahill have identified a good gap in the market and stepped into it with an amazing product that blocks and filters over 55% of blue light and eliminates reflections on the surface of the lenses, which are reinforced with anti-scratch and smudge protection.  All five styles get the Image thumbs up- they’re nothing like those big, chunky orange-tinted glasses that look like something out of X-Men.

At the moment the range is only available with clear lenses but prescription models are in the pipeline. In the meantime, some of us are layering them over our ‘real’ glasses, which admittedly isn’t such a good look (very Mom on the beach).

I’ve been wearing my Novas for a few weeks now and genuinely feel they’ve really helped. I had been suffering from bad headaches and eye fatigue at work and found it very difficult to get through the day. I also found that because of these symptoms I wasn’t getting a good night’s sleep- I was waking up at random times in the middle of the night, tossing and turning and unable to fall back to sleep. It was hard to get up early for work too – the thought of having to look at a screen all day was daunting.  Not any more- it could be a happy coincidence, but I’m convinced they’ve made a difference and have even started wearing them out of the office for Netflixing etc.

Now everyone in the office wants them. Bad.
