Meghan Markle’s acting days maybe over now that she’s a fully-fledged member of the royal family, but the BBC are about to give her a type of tribute nonetheless: a miniature musical based on the life and times of Meghan Markle, entitled The Sixth In Line to be King and I.

Radio 4’s 15 Minute Musical have the Duchess of Sussex next up, according to The Telegraph, with a “Rodgers and Hammerstein-inspired” comedy broadcast confirmed for the Christmas schedule.

The report said the segment will “look ahead to what promises to be an exciting 2019 for the happy royal couple as they expect their first child in the spring.” It’s been described as an “inspired celebration of Meghan Markle’s life to date.” It sounds… interesting?

The programme will feature an episode of the Radio 4 series called 15 Minute Musical, which has in the past focused storylines involving Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn and the EU Referendum. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the royals have not been consulted on the programme but they likely won’t mind too much, given that last year, the BBC Radio Christmas schedule included a special edition of the Today programme, which was guest edited by Prince Harry.

And as it happens, Radio 4’s episode on Markle will not be the only royal-inspired radio show to air on the BBC this Christmas season. Prince Charles will be a guest on Radio 3’s Private Passions, where he will discuss his musical loves and hates. “He will discuss the role of music in his life in the 45-minute-long BBC show, due for broadcast on BBC Sounds on Boxing Day and Radio 3 on December 30th,” according to The Telegraph.

The Duchess of Sussex’s episode in question for this year will centre on the duchess played by the regular cast, with Pippa Evans taking on the role of Meghan. It will air on BBC Radio 4 on New Year’s Day.
