Beauty, comedy and conspiracy theories: YouTube reveals what Ireland has been watching in 2019

Beauty, comedy and conspiracy theories: YouTube reveals what Ireland has been watching in 2019

Video platform YouTube has introduced their Rewind stats, showing the videos that Ireland obsessed over in 2019

Vlogging, music videos and documentaries were all on our watch list in 2019, according to YouTube. The video streaming platform has revealed the most popular videos of the year in Ireland and the topics that caught our attention over the past 12 months.

With ‘vlogger’ now becoming a popular career option for Gen Z kids, it was no surprise that some of the platform’s most popular vloggers took up many of the top spots in Ireland. Taking first place on the top ten was James Charles’ ‘No More Lies’ video, where the high profile beauty vlogger addressed all the allegations made against him by fellow makeup artist Tati Westbrook, who had ‘called out’ Charles earlier this year.

Another high profile vlogger Shane Dawson took the number two spot, with ‘Conspiracy Theories with Shane Dawson’, which sees he and his friends discuss a number of popular conspiracy theories in detail.

The Irish connection

But our top ten wasn’t all taken up with international names — Ireland loved to watch homegrown videos this year too. Comedy acts The 2 Johnnies and Foil, Arms and Hog gave us two of our most-watched videos of the year, and our everlasting obsession with the weather proved unstoppable, as number six on the list was the ‘Hurricane Lorenzo Weather Warning’.

Music videos

In a world increasingly focused on streaming and not on TV, you’d be forgiven for thinking that music videos are a dying art, but the stats show that the medium is going nowhere. As 2019 comes to a close, the Irish top ten music videos feature Lil Nas X with Old Town Road, Stormzy with Vossi Bop, and topping off at number one, the inimitable Billie Eilish with Bad Guy.
