Trainers are the best fashion item to invest in during quarantine – here are 11 of the best

It’s a weird time in the world of fashion.

Are we buying or are we not? Do we get on the loungewear train or is it just a phase?

With social and economic circumstances turned on their head, clothes are not on our priority list. However, if you are buying, it’s best to stick to pieces that will last beyond quarantine. Loungewear and tracksuits may be all you want to wear, but realistically, think about how many times you will wear them once you are allowed out of your house.

Investment buying is old news at this stage, but the sentiment has never been more important. Random panic buys won’t cut it, especially if finances prove to be an issue. Yet investment doesn’t mean copious amounts of money. In my opinion, an investment can mean several things. When investing in any piece, whatever the price, you need to ask yourself if you will wear it. And this doesn’t mean once or twice, we are looking for a hefty cost-per-wear ratio.

Humble trainer

This is where the humble trainer makes its entrance.

Trainers are no longer just for the youth and fitness fanatics. They are now an integral part of our wardrobes. Most importantly, trainers are comfortable and versatile and those elements are vital when buying during these precarious times.

Trainers are perfect for quarantine fashion. Wear them under a dress during your conference call. Maybe jazz up your daily walk with a multicoloured pair.

Or just wear them under your pyjamas while taking out the bins.

Beyond this period, they go with everything in every season.

This means they are most certainly not a frivolous buy.

Our favourites are the new baby blue Comme des Garçons x Converse design and Puma’s Nova 90s Bloc pair which come in at a purse-friendly €45.
