Celebrities such as Cate Blanchett and Hugh Grant have shared what they are watching while under lockdown – get the pens and paper ready

In many ways celebrities are just like us.

They too are cooped up in their homes and although their houses may be bigger, they will still need to find ways to pass the time.

One such way is binge-watching films and TV series with abandon.

As they are in the business, they should know a thing or two about a good watch.

And thankfully, some of them have shared their watch lists.

Here are our favourites.

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett teamed up with IMDb and the UNHCR over the weekend and shared her six “films of hope”.

In a video, the Oscar-winning actress said: “Like most of us I’m staying at home right now as part of the global effort to keep each other safe in these very trying times… COVID-19 has affected all of us and we have seen what it has done in countries with strong and robust health care systems but now we’re seeing the spread to countries with weaker systems and it’s putting the lives of millions at risk.”

The films she has chosen focus on human connection and supporting others. Blanchett also asked the public to think of refugees during this time, as they are particularly at risk during this crisis.

“Refugees are some of the world’s most vulnerable people; you just have to imagine for a moment what it would be like in an overcrowded refugee camp with the threat of COVID-19 – with limited access to soap and water and where social distancing is virtually impossible.”

Hugh Grant

The Notting Hill actor told EW that Midsommar starring Florence Pugh blew him away while he watched it in lockdown.

“I was just sifting through some of those films that come on DVDs for voting for Oscars and things. And I thought, ‘Oh, [my wife] Anna will enjoy this one, it’s Swedish’.

“It looked like people frolicking around in the sunshine. That’ll be nice. Both of us can’t get over it! We can’t sleep, our children have to comfort us at night because we have so many nightmares. Oh my God! You have to see it, it’s unforgettable.”

Jameela Jamil

The activist and actress told USA Today what TV shows she was currently binging saying, “I watch Sex and the City reruns, and my boyfriend goes and plays video games and we get a little bit of alone time. We all need alone time with the girls; I can’t be with my girlfriends right now, so those are my girlfriends.

“I just binge-watched Feel Good in a night on Netflix. It’s incredible. It’s a young, queer romantic comedy. Lisa Kudrow’s in it; she’s fabulous. I’ve been watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Comeback, Barry. I just started Little Fires Everywhere.”
