Deskside beauty: essentials for surviving winter in the office

We don’t know about your office, but here at IMAGE there is constant war over the the thermostat. No matter how many timers and temperatures are set, by Friday this has always been sabotaged by someone who’s feeling particularly chilly. This war of off and on, means one minute it can be a total sauna and the next every window in the office is open. It’s a well known fact that drastic changes in temperature can play havoc with your skin in winter months, so here are some desk heroes that will save you no matter what. Keep to hand for any skincare woes throughout the working week.

A face mist

Caudalie Beauty Elixir; £12 at cultbeauty.co.uk

If you’re boiling alive in your chunky knitwear a face mist can be a gift from the gods. A good misting over face and decolletage is so refreshing when you’re too hot. Not only that, but as your face is probably feeling a little tight and dehydrated with going from hot to cold, it’s an easy way to get a moisture boost when you’re wearing make-up. Also you’ll look super extra whilst desk spritzing which is always a good thing.

Hand sanitiser

Soap & Glory Hand Maid Antibacterial Hand Cleansing Gel at boots.ie

Keyboards, phones, and a shared kitchen is a breeding ground for bacteria. This explains why people appear to fall like dominos when one person in the office gets a cold. For your skin, breakouts can be trigged easily from this, especially if you touch your face, or lean on yours hands whilst staring at the computer screen. Keep a hand sanitiser within easy reach for regular use throughout the day, preferably one that smells nice and is moisturising as it will encourage you to use it more.

Hand cream

Hemp Hand Protector; €18.50 at thebodyshop.ie

If, like myself, you hate wearing gloves (is it just me who finds them unbearably claustrophobic?) then your hands are probably in need of some regular TLC. Hand cream is often something we forget to keep doing but it is essential for keeping eczema flare ups at bay as well as keeping your nails in good condition.

Lip Balm

Nuxe Reve De Miel Lip Balm; €12.00 at arnotts.ie

We’re going to assume you are always carrying a lip balm with you at all times at this time of year. There is nothing worse than when you leave it at home and have lips feeling dryer than the Sahara so we would suggest always having one at your desk. Nuxe Reve de Miel is a great one for this as its lovely and thick meaning you don’t lick it off in five minutes flat.
