Listening, as we always do, to Ryan Tubridy’s 2fm show of a weekday morning, we heard some exciting – though not yet officially confirmed – news.
So Ed Sheeran is coming back to Ireland to play his biggest Irish gig yet, in Croker, this July. Hurrah! That much we know already, but what about his support? As huge a fan as he is of Ireland and Irish acts, we couldn’t imagine Ed choosing a support act from any other country, but who would it be?
Of course, Hozier was the most obvious of names as a gig with those two would set our collective pulses racing, but as it turns out Ed Sheeran has chosen a man a little more similar to himself. In both the vocal and the barnett department. We couldn’t be more excited.
Gavin James! While it’s not yet been released as official news, Stephen Byrne of RTE, who’s currently in LA ahead of this weekend’s Oscars, said to Ryan that he was chatting with James at the famous Oscar Wilde party and told him of a very big, exciting gig coming his way this year, that he would be supporting someone huge at one of the most hyped gigs of the next 12 months. Ryan guessed that he would support Ed Sheeran at Croke Park, to which Stephen replied with a cheeky ‘no comment’, which of course we’ll translate as ‘yes, yes indeed.’
So there you have it, Dublin man Gavin James is about to go global; watch this space.
