Fashion Roundup: Best Of Couture Week 2017

Couture Week came to a magnificent close this week, and we’re taking a quick look back on our favourite jaw-dropping looks from some of our favourite designers.

Haute Couture Week renews our appreciation for traditional garment-making?and the skilled people who craft them. And this year was certainly no different.

Firstly, how does haute couture week differ from other fashion weeks? Apart from causing a bit of confusion, haute couture week simply showcases the best handmade gowns and outfits from the best ateliers that the world has to offer.

It means that master craftswomen and men have worked relentlessly for hours – days, even – on end to create the finished masterpieces. That means we’re guaranteed more diamonds, jewels, delicate lace, luxurious silk, intricate threadwork, and more hemlines than one can imagine.

From Alice in Wonderland-dystopian vibes at Valentino and Arabian inspiration at Giorgio Armani Priv??to?the whimsical enchantment of Elie Saabs Cinderella-esque gowns and?Giambattista Valli’s?exotic take on traditional formal wear. Dare we forget to mention the flawless Lily-Rose Depp who closed the Chanel show wearing the most flamboyant pink wedding gown, which undoubtedly stole the show.

For the most part, the designers let the clothes do the talking meaning that makeup remains light and natural; usually teamed with a beautiful dewy and healthy glow (except maybe for at Armani Priv?, where Linda Cantello used a coral shadow to create a graphic eye look).

Soft hues of nude,?taupe, and blue were the dominant colour choices this year, seen at?Galia Lahav, Vetements, and featured heavily at Valentino, Chanel, and Elie Saab.
