fifty shades of grey movie
We’re looking at just over four weeks to Fifty Shades of Grey’s highly anticipated release in cinemas on February 13th – just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. We’ve had teasers, trailers, teasers for trailers, so it’s good to have an end date in the diary for some Jamie Dornan action. Here’s what we know so far about the movie?
Don’t expect any graphic scenes
While the book is full of literal sex scenes – including one preempted by Dornan’s character, billionaire Christina Grey yanking a tampon out of his love interest, the submissive Anastasia Steele – it seems the movie will be taking a far more subtle approach.
In the US the MPPA have rated the movie R for ‘strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language.? The next rating up from R is NC-17, a marker fans were expecting considering the book depicts very graphic sex scenes and BDSM.
Jamie Dornan has already revealed that there won’t be any full frontal on his part, telling the Guardian viewers won’t be seeing his ?todger?. He also spoke to GQ about what filming the sex scenes was really like, “Your dignity is intact as much as it’s all tucked away in a little flesh-coloured bag… As a guy you put all your essentials in a little bag and you tie it up like a little bag of grapes and it’s tucked away. Its quite a peculiar thing to do every day.”
Apparently the film will focus more on the romantic elements of the story as opposed to the sex scenes that brought the novel to such prominence.
Without any male full frontal we’ll just have to do with eyeing up the interior design of the famous red room. From stills so far it looks very Victorian Goth Pinterest.
There will be good music
The soundtrack is pretty darn something, but then again we love cheesy soundtracks? Danny Elfman, frequent Tim Burton collaborator, is on original composition duties so expect very good incidental music. Meanwhile, some of pop’s best acts are providinh the rest of the soundtrack. Beyonc? has featured on both trailers and this week Ellie Goulding – who we interviewed waaaaaay back last summer ? released her song Love Me Like You Do. It’s got the signature Goulding electronica vibe and some pretty emotional lyrics. Apt vibes for a very 21st century love story. And imagine William and Kate had her at The Wedding.
The Weeknd’s effort, Earned It, was released a few weeks ago and has a bit of an all out sexier edge to it all. Total erotic montage music.
It might be a feminist movie???
This assertion has our skeptical brows raised. Jamie has been interviewing a lot lately, he’s Mr. Very Handsome Serial Killer Family Man in The Fall when he’s not spanking young English literature graduates on screen, and the sadomasochistic love story of EL James? novel has been under scrutiny since it first came to the reading public’s frenzied attention. Is this tale of a wealthy older man taking advantage of a young na’ve and sexually inexperienced girl totally lacking in any egalitarian values? Not so, says the 32-year-old actor.
?I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But actually, more men are submissives than women. Very powerful men. It’s a far bigger scene than I imagined: in pretty much any city in the world that you could name, people want to get spanked with a paddle with studs on it,? he said in an interview with Elle.
Jamie Dornan is not looking forward to the crazy fandom
This week’s viral Jamie Dornan interview comes from Details magazine and this time the Northern Irish actor is talking fame. Specifically how he fears the upcoming tsunami of premieres and selfie-seeking fans. He’s so scared he’s even worried he might get murdered!
?I almost don’t want to put this out there into the ether, but I fear I’ll get murdered, like John Lennon, by one of those mad fans at the premiere. Because a lot of people are very angry that I’m playing this character. And I’m a father now, and a husband. I don’t want to die yet? And when I do get murdered, people will say, ‘God, isn’t it haunting how he did that interview in?Details magazine and predicted his own death on the red carpet?'”
Bit extreme, Jamie?
Dakota Johnson may become 2015’s unexpected style icon
We really like Dakota Johnson. When she was first announced as Anastasia Grey there was a lot of internet anger among certain segments of the fandom, but the girl is a fresh talent and has a brilliant repertoire of supporting parts – see The 5 Year Engagement and 21 Jump Street. She’s also playing a bit of a low-key fashion blinder, flying under the radar with a casual wardrobe that might make her the patron saint of ankle boots.
She’s currently dating Matthew Hitt, a lead singer and guitarist with American-Welsh outfit Drowners. They make a very pretty indie picture and can occasionally be seen having fun on Hitt’s Instagram. Cue the awwwwww.
As for her red carpet wardrobe come movie promo time, we’re confident she’ll have some good names in her carry on. After all, the director of Fifty Shades, Sam Taylor-Johnson, has friends in high fashion places – Stella McCartney is a close friend and she has some Chanel pull after photographing Coco’s Parisian apartment for an exhibition last year.
