Here’s everything we know about Michelle Obama’s new podcast

Here’s everything we know about Michelle Obama’s new podcast

The new podcast will debut on Spotify at the end of this month

Some days, it seems like the radio and social media are teaming up to bombard us with bad news.

It can be exhausting to constantly hear doom and gloom from every outlet.

So, when the wise and inspirational Michelle Obama said she was launching her own podcast, we could not have been more thrilled for a bit of positivity and guidance in these unsettling times.

What is it about?

The podcast series is called The Michelle Obama Podcast and, in the spirit of Michelle’s Becoming documentary, it will discuss real life issues and encourage productive self-reflection.

In the series’ trailer, the former first lady says the podcast will focus on relationships and health and how to nurture them both in our own lives.

“In this first season, I’m going to be talking to some of the people I’m closest with, my mom, my brother, my friends, my colleagues and many others,” Michelle explains. “We’ll be discussing the relationships that make us who we are.”

Topics include the challenges and joys of being a parent or a spouse, the importance of healthy friendships and the growth we experience from leaning on colleagues and mentors around us.

Talk-show host Conan O’Brien and Valerie Jarrett, business woman and former senior advisor to Barack Obama, are guest speakers on the show as well.

What makes it unique?

Michelle said she started the podcast to help guide people through a particularly difficult time.

She said that we’re currently dealing with a “nationwide reckoning with race” and a panic-ridden pandemic, facing increased isolation and a lot of free time for self-reflection.

“My hope is that this series can be a place to explore meaningful topics together and sort through so many of the questions we’re all trying to answer in our own lives,” she said.

“Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations — and hard conversations — with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another.”

When and where can I listen?

The podcast series will debut on Spotify on July 29.

Michelle described the series as the “first season”, so hopefully it will be an ongoing show for quite some time.

The podcast has a lot of hype already and if it’s anything like her book and documentary, it will definitely live up to it all.
