Black Friday is nearly here and we are asking five IMAGE staffers what they will be putting in their shopping baskets
Black Friday was once only for those living in America. It was the retail storm which came after the Thanksgiving calm.
In recent years it has slowly made its way towards our shores and we have lapped it up. We are suckers for bargains. Like a moth to a flame, an Irish son or daughter can spot a cost reduction from a mile away.
The seduction is all too much and we easily give in to the lust. Here at IMAGE, it’s no different. We love nothing more than finding a beauty that’s a bargain too.
We decided to ask five IMAGE staffers what they will be putting in their baskets this Black Friday. From beauty to fashion to tech, each of the items are useful and worth the spend, which makes the price even sweeter.

Prada cat-eye sunglasses, €215 at Brown Thomas
Link sunglasses chain, €39 at Uterque
The one thing that gets me through the winter is the thoughts of the summer ahead. So while I should be buying gifts on Black Friday, I’ll instead be dreaming of sunnier climes and treating myself to fancy sunglasses. I’m hoping Brown Thomas offers a decent discount on these Prada cat-eyes. That way I can justify buying a matching sunglasses chain from Uterqüe (assuming it’s reduced by at least 20%).
Sure, I might not get to wear them until spring, but the very sight of these items will keep my spirits lifted as temperatures drop.

Lucy Williams gold entwine hoops, €111 at Missoma
Aegis chain, €174 at Missoma
One of my all-time favourite jewellery brands Missoma will have 25% discount off everything on Black Friday this week. Actually, if you sign up to their early access, you can use the VIP discount from today onwards. I absolutely love everything Missoma, and I have had my eye on their newest Lucy Williams collection for quite some time now. So, it’s really the perfect moment to go purchase without any regrets!

Mystic cow print square toe boots, €78.40 at Topshop
Generation G sheer matte lipstick, €17 at Glossier
Okay, I know these are a bit mad but hear me out. If you’re not going to buy a fab, slightly OTT pair of boots on Black Friday, when are you? Cow print is a big trend with the youngsters this year, but these tan pony hair versions are the perfect grown-up equivalent. Pair them with denim and a white t-shirt or cream jumper — and stay away from other loud prints — and they’ll serve you well.
For the past couple of years since Glossier came into my life, I lay in wait for 11 months of the year until Black Friday, a.k.a the only day of the year that Glossier have any kind of markdown on their products. They normally offer 20% off everything, and I take the opportunity to stock up on all the skincare and make-up of theirs that I use daily (of which there is a lot). My favourite Glossier product, though, is definitely their Generation G lipstick in Zip. It’s the perfect sheer red, matte but not dry, and buildable so you can wear it as dramatically or as understated as you want.

Google Home, €40 (was €99) at Currys.ie
Samsung 43” Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV, €369 (was €449) at Currys.ie
I’ve wanted Google Home for ages. Not only can it play my favourite music and podcasts, but it can also control my lights and heating through a smart Nest thermostat. All I have to do is say, ‘Okay, Google’. I know the add-ons can be pricey, but that’s why we’re shopping on Black Friday to make savings where we can.
As my family is investing in Google Home, we decided to go all-out and buy a Smart TV too. It works seamlessly with Google Home’s voice commands, plus it allows us to use Netflix quickly and easily. I’ve been using Samsung tech for as long as I can remember so this HD option is a must.

IDOL reversible borg coat, €140 at Topshop
Croc leather knee-high boots, €229 at & Other Stories
Black Friday is an easy excuse for purchasing too much, which is why we should all think long and hard about what we actually need – not what we think we need. This is the time for investment purchases. A good coat and boots will never do anyone wrong and this year I am treating myself to both.
I have had my eye on this Topshop coat for weeks now. It’s chic with a military edge and the khaki colour will work with most of my wardrobe. These & Other Stories knee-high boots are on-trend but will forever be a classic. The heel is the perfect height for everyday wear and the croc leather gives a lovely point of difference. & Other Stories had 20% off across all ranges last year for Black Friday, so expect the same discount and more this year.
