We have endless respect for Kate Winslet. She is an exemplary talent. Her diverse array of critically acclaimed role in films such as The Reader, Little Children and her stand out turn in the fantastic Mildred Pierce should (and probably does) strike fear into the hearts of her acting colleagues. She owns an Oscar, Grammy and an Emmy, so one thing is certain – she knows how to excel in her field. Yet it is the ever-discussed topic of her personal life that often takes center stage. We’re frequently reminded that she is on marriage number three and always told that she actively decides to ?bare all? in various nude scenes in her movies. These comments are often made to imply that the nudity somehow takes away from the importance of said films, which, of course, is ridiculous.
And it is on this topic, that Winslet has strong and empowering views. Looking good for nude scenes isn’t what matters to her, but having a healthy body is. The Oscar winner has spoken about her evolving body confidence and said that the most important thing is for her body to be healthy so she can support her children and family.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Winslet said: ?Now I view my physical self as an instrument that I have to keep going because I’m a mother, and I have to be as healthy as I can for those three people who need me – more than I need for myself to be in a f*****g nude scene.? The Titanic star has three children: Mia, who is 14, Joe, who was born in 2003 and Bear, one, with husband Ned Rocknroll.
Did we mention she is a perfect role model for anyone looking for inspiration on loving the skin you’re in? She has previously said she feels ?a sense of responsibility for how other women view themselves.? She is often considered a spokesperson for healthy body image, and in 2003, openly criticised GQ magazine for airbrushing a cover image of her.
She admitted never having a body-double when filming nude scenes, saying that ?would feel like lying,? and far from being ashamed to do a nude scene at almost 40, she simply said that she didn’t think she could ?get away with them now.? We beg to differ and think she’d look as incredible as always doing so.
Winslet, who will next be seen the Steve Jobs biopic, said that in her 20s and 30s, she focused on her body in ?a way that [was] just not cool or healthy,? but that she is more concerned about her health for her family’s sake. She famously said: ?I simply can’t believe I ever spent any time wasting my life on that nonsense.?
I’m a mother, and I have to be as healthy as I can for those three people who need me – more than I need for myself to be in a f*****g nude scene.?
She was also quick to address the many rumours around her supposed subtle Botox work. ?Just a couple of hours ago, my publicist sent an email saying that some journalist from the Daily Mail has a picture of me from an event last night and is saying that I appear to have lost all the baby weight and how did I do that? And do I want to comment on the fact that experts are saying that I’ve had Botox? I just get irritated by that s?. First of all, the latter is 100 percent not true, and secondly, it’s f?ing 18 months later. Of course I’m going to get back at some point.?
She is unfailing real and devoid of any celebrity ego. We need more Kate Winslet in the entertainment industry.
