Kelly Clarkson has performed a jaw-dropping, live rendition of one of the best-selling songs from last year. While on stage at her concert in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the American Idol winner treated fans to a cover of Shallow.
Originally written and performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the Academy Award-nominated film A Star Is Born, Shallow continues to be a firm favourite among music fans and performers alike. Not only is it inching towards 400 million streams on Spotify, but it’s also being covered by other artists.
“I hope I don’t suck”
Before revealing which song she was going to sing – or which star she was doing a cover of – Kelly told the audience, “I know there’s a lot of competition with artists in the industry, but there’s a lot of us that dig each other and get inspired by each other.
“And this chick is amazing. We’re really different, but at the same time, we’re really similar in the fact that she just loves music. She’s the nicest human being ever. Her name is Lady Gaga… any fans?” Kelly asked; a question which was followed by a huge roar from the crowd.
“It’s from the movie that she’s nominated for a billion awards for… I hope she wins.”
“It’s cool to know that someone that talented is also really nice. I’ve been rooting for her for a while,” she continued. “This song, I just love it. It’s from the movie that she’s nominated for a billion awards for. I hope she wins.
“I thought she and Bradley Cooper did such an awesome job of this song, and so we’re going to do our version of it. I hope I don’t suck, and if I do, I hope she doesn’t see it,” Kelly laughed before starting to sing.
While she did have an accidental slip-up with words in the second verse, her performance is powerful, memorable, and spine-tingling.
