Louis Theroux’s new series Living on the edge starts tonight on BBC2. Here is everything you need to know about the new show

The ever-popular documentary maker Louis Theroux is back tonight with a four-party series on BBC.

Starting tonight, Living on the Edge will be a little different from his usual documentaries, with the show taking a look back at over 60 hours of the journalist and filmmaker’s most famous documentaries. Some familiar faces from his most famous episodes will also be back for new interviews.

The BBC said of the show: “From his Weird Weekends episodes on survivalists and UFOs to his now-notorious documentary about the White Aryan Resistance in California (Louis and the Nazis), Louis has always been drawn to those whose beliefs seem unusual, confused or, in some cases, abhorrent.”

The entire series was filmed over lockdown and is something of a passion project for Theroux.

“For years I’ve wanted to go back and make sense of the programmes I’ve made, find out what happened to some of the contributors, update their stories, and see what all these many hours of making TV might add up to,” Theroux said.

“Lockdown gave me the time and space to do this. It’s been a strange and fascinating couple of months working on this, and especially fun to dig through old episodes of Weird Weekends – programmes I made in the mid-’90s, when the world was a very different place.”

The first episode in the four-part series airs tonight at 9 pm on BBC2.
