Meghan Markle and Prince Harry name their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

The duke and duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, have named their first son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor after his first appearance to the world

Earlier today we were finally introduced to Baby Sussex at Windsor Castle.  At the time, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the public without a name but now the waiting game is finally over.

TheDuke and Duchess have named their new son: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Archie, who was born on May 6 weighing 7lbs, 3oz, is now 7th in line for the throne. He will not have a title and be called Master Archie.

The news was announced on the @sussexroyal Instagram page along with a photo of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and the Duchess’ mother, Doria Ragland. This was the first time the Queen had been introduced to her eighth great-grandchild.

Bold or brave

Archie is the shortened version of Archibald, meaning “bold” or “brave”, while Harrison means “son of Henry” or “son of Harry”.

A name of German origin, Archie is the shortened version of Archibald, meaning “bold” or “brave”. Harrison is of Aboriginal origin and means “son of Henry” or “son of Harry”.

Bookies had Archie at around 100/1, with Harrison not making the lists at all.

This afternoon, the Duke and Duchess greeted reporters to officially introduce their new son to the world. Speaking to reporters the Duchess said: “Um, it’s magic, it’s pretty amazing, I mean I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy.”

She continued: “He has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm and has just been a dream. It’s been a special couple of days.”

Royal tradition

Baby Archie made his debut to the world, wrapped in a shawl made by the same company used by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for their children. Preserving a royal tradition, the Duke and Duchess introduced Archie, swaddled in a white merino wool shawl knitted by a small, family-run company, GH Hurt & Son, based in Chilwell.

According to reports, Meghan’s dress was from British designer Grace Wales Bonner. Award-winning Ms Bonner is the founder of London-based label Wales Bonner. She embraces a multiplicity of perspectives, proposing a distinct notion of luxury, via a hybrid of European and Afro-Atlantic approaches, according to her website.

Despite not having a title, Archie will one day be the grandson of the sovereign, so when his grandfather becomes king then he will become a Royal Highness if that is what his parents want.

‘Amazing experience’

Following the birth of baby Archie on Monday Prince Harry praised his wife and all mothers saying: “It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.

“We’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there,” he added. “I’m so incredibly proud of my wife. This little thing is absolutely to-die-for, so I’m just over the moon”.
