The new app-controlled Elvie breast pump is aiming to ease the stresses of post-pregnancy life and make pumping milk easier.

The device is the first silent, wearable breast pump on the market. The hands-free technology allows women to wear the pump underneath any standard nursing bra, and it’s designed to fit seamlessly into your life. The free Elvie Pump app allows you to track milk flow in real time on your phone, keep a record of the pumping history for each breast, and control the pump. The pump can detect the let-down reflex and will then switch from stimulation mode to expression.

The rechargeable pump is completely wire-free, which means busy mothers can go about their day without being tied to a cord and socket. It is fully charged in two hours with a USB plug and has a battery life of two and a half hours. The breast shield comes in three sizes, enabling it to fit most breast shapes. And instead of a bag, there is a reusable container which can hold up to five ounces of milk.

The pump is comprised of only five parts; all of which are BPA-free plastic and machine-wash friendly. This is the second product that the company Elvie, founded in 2013, has created. The first was a Kegel trainer used to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles for increased bladder control.

There is a currently a waiting list for the Elvie pump and it comes with a price tag of £229 for a single pump, and £429 for a double pump.
