There’s a French country feel to this incredible period house for sale in Kildare, which has been thoughtfully modernised so it’s ready to move in.

Known as the Oldcourt House, the clue to this building’s history is in the name. Built around 1800 as just that, a courthouse, it has been through a number of iterations since, including a rectory, before finally being converted into a family home in 1975.

However, this is not a house that requires any TLC. It’s been beautifully maintained and updated since then, with five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a self-contained suite, as well as lush woodlands and gardens surrounding it. Abutting the 600-acre Donadea Forest Park, it’s a quiet, country spot that’s still only 40 minutes from Dublin airport. On the market for €1.75 million, it comes with 13.5-acre grounds and outdoor facilities.

Inside, the bright entrance hall leads to a traditional drawing room and dining room, with a smaller, less formal sitting room off to one side and a games room on the other. The kitchen is modern and bright (with its own Aga) thanks to a huge skylight and more relaxed eating and sitting spaces open directly onto the broad patio area and gardens. To the rear is a spacious pantry and utility room with its own entrance, as well as a secluded home office.

The stairs in the utility leads to a self-contained one-bedroom suite, with its own bathroom and kitchen/living area. These rooms all have views overlooking the gardens.

Up the main grand staircase are the five bedrooms, four of which have an ensuite bathroom. Two bedrooms, including the master suite, also have a walk-in wardrobe. All the rooms boast views of the 13.5 acres of land that comes with the house.

As well as the manicured gardens, there are also the stables and paddock, a tennis court, an orchard and a three-car garage. The entire estate is incredibly secluded thanks to its national park neighbour and the mature planting and trees that have seen this house through its many renderings.

The house is a protected structure so new owners will have to keep this in mind but as it’s been so carefully and considerately modernised, it’s in pristine move-in condition.

Now, where do we pick up the keys?
