Earlier this year, Columbia Pictures confirmed their plans to remake Little Women, a film based on the classic novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott.
First published in 1868, the story follows four sisters on their path from teenhood to adulthood. Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy have strikingly different personalities; and they must learn to embrace one another as they encounter poverty, relationships and motherhood.

The big screen remake boasts an all-star cast; including Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothee Chalamet and three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep. First pictures from the production have just been released online.
The images show Saoirse Ronan (as Jo), Emma Watson (as Meg), Florence Pugh (as Amy), and Eliza Scanlen (as Beth), wearing skirts and woollen shawls typical of the Victorian era. The stars can be seen walking arm-in-arm across fake snow in Massachusetts, where they’re filming on location at Harvard University.
Though no photos have been released of her yet, Meryl Streep is set to play the part of the sisters’ Aunt March. Meanwhile, Timothée Chalamet has been cast as Laurie Laurence; the family’s next-door neighbour.
This version of Little Women is being directed by Greta Gerwig, the Academy Award nominee behind last year’s Lady Bird.
As for the production team, Variety magazine names Amy Pascal (who worked on The Post and Spider-Man: Homecoming); Denise Di Novi (the woman behind Crazy, Stupid Love and Edward Scissorhands); and Robin Swicord (behind Matilda and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
No release date has been confirmed as of yet; though IMDB suggests the film will hit cinemas at some point in 2019.
