Spring/summer capsules and Celine catwalks: all on this week’s Smart Casual

Smart Casual is IMAGE’s first fashion podcast, in collaboration with Kildare Village. In our bi-weekly chats, we examine why we wear the clothes we do and deal with personal style in a way that speaks to you.

We were sure Episode 13 would be lucky for us here at Smart Casual, but alas it was not to be. Apologies for our new episode being a day late, but we promise it was for a good reason — our guest this week, male model and Donegal native Ferdia Gallagher, was worth the wait. Hailing from Gweedore and having been discovered only six months ago on Instagram, Ferdia’s career as a model has taken off to a whirlwind start, making his debut walking for Celine at Paris Fashion Week just a few weeks ago. The 19-year-old chatted to Dominique about growing up in Donegal with a head for fashion, the process of casting for an international Fashion Week, meeting Hedi Slimane, and his plans for the rest of 2019 (of what he can reveal).

Before his interview, our hosts are chatting about the new season ahead, and their sartorial plans for getting their wardrobes up to speed. Adding light, colour and a new feel to our clothes for spring and summer is a yearly thought process, and one that is difficult to navigate with a new consciousness about ethical and sustainable fashion. How can we update our looks economically, while still staying fresh and in-the-moment? Many would say that a capsule wardrobe edit is the answer, but as our hosts discuss, this isn’t always a realistic, or, more importantly, stylish option.

Episode 13 of Smart Casual, in collaboration with Kildare Village, is available now on SoundCloud and iTunes – make sure to like, subscribe and rate us wherever you enjoy your podcasts. Smart Casual is hosted by Dominique McMullan, Marie Kelly and Édaein O’Connell, and produced by Erin Lindsay. If you can’t wait to download, have a listen to the new episode below:
