We’ve whiled away many an hour drooling over pretty Paris pied-?-terres and beautiful Brooklyn brownstones on Airbnb – but what about our own fair capital?
As the company’s EU HQ, it’s hardly surprising that Dublin has embraced the Airbnb culture with abandon – and we’ve tracked down our favourites. From sleek and stylish city-centre apartments to restored period townhouses in Georgian Dublin, here are four pads that have us considering booking a few holiday days off to sojourn in our own backyard…
1. The Modern Family Home
Three-bedroom Portobello townhouse, €280 per night This homely three-bed townhouse in fashionable Portobello is recently refurbished but retains its original features, resulting in a contemporary yet cosy feel. The sleek living area, with its modern wood-burning stove and adjoining industrial-style kitchen, is the ideal space for a family to unwind after a day pounding the Temple Bar cobblestones.
2. The Antique Apartment
One-bedroom Fitzwilliam Place apartment, €160 per night A historic Georgian apartment in old Dublin, this space offers an abundance of antique charm plus luxurious touches for those in need of a city break with added opulence. With its gilded French bed, original wooden floorboards, free-standing copper bath and authentic Georgian fireplace, this awe-inspiring apartment would make for the perfect setting to truly escape the daily grind, while still being a mere hop from the city centre.
3. The Trendy Townhouse
Two-bedroom townhouse in the heart of medieval Dublin, €180 per night With foundations lying on the original medieval city wall, this funky period townhouse has been restored with fun; original fireplaces, reclaimed cast-iron radiators and a claw-foot bathtub exist side by side more recent additions such as a projector/cinema room on the top floor and an arrangement of wall-mounted bikes. This cheerful period property will give Airbnbers a taste of authentic Dublin living – in a city where the old and the new co-exist every day.
4. The Wow-Factor Tower
One-bedroom restored Martello Tower in Dalkey, €450 per night We were sold on this stunning coastal defence tower restored as a luxurious residence as soon as we saw the beautiful granite stonework and incredible circular rooftop terrace. With buckets of seaside wow factor, a break in this unique spot would be a holiday to remember, as well as offering potential for many jealousy-inducing holiday selfies (if you’re so inclined).
