Fans are eagerly awaiting a premiere date for the third season of The Crown, while casting has already begun for season four (it was reported that both seasons would be shot simultaneously).
The third and fourth series span the years 1964-76, with series one and two covering the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, from 1947-63.
This season will see the introduction of Camilla Parker-Bowles, so it’s only natural that we will also meet Princess Diana given the turbulent relationship that was always depicted between all three royals; Diana welcomed Prince William into the world in 1982, before having Prince Harry in ’84. After a tumultuous and unhappy marriage, Diana and Charles announced their divorce in 1996, largely due to Charles’ lengthy affair with Camila.

The series producers have started to look for the actress who will portray Diana, and according to the producers’ depiction of the Princess of Wales, it looks like their variation of the princess might not go down too well with the royal family.

The Crown is reportedly casting Princess Diana as a “desperate and lonely self-harmer” in series four. An advert for the role allegedly says the Netflix show is looking for a “staggeringly talented” actress to play the princess between the age of 18-22, as she struggles to connect with her in-laws, The Queen and Prince Philip.
We need a mesmerising new young star with extraordinary range,” reports The Telegraph.
The series will reportedly focus on Diana and Prince Charles’ courtship and subsequent marriage in 1981, when the late princess was 20.

Meanwhile, The Crown season 3 will centre on the late ’60s and early ’70s with Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman taking over from Claire Foy as the Queen.
Helena Bonham Carter replaces Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, and Tobias Menzies takes over from Matt Smith as Prince Philip, with Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and Call the Midwife’s Emerald Fennell will star as Camilla.
The Crown season 3 is due to air this summer.
