The World’s Sexiest Accent is…

We’re just having a minute’s silence for the Irish accent. Turns out that our adorable brogue is not the sexiest in the word, according to Time Out‘s The World of Dating poll.

In fact, the British accent was deemed the most attractive among 11,000 people surveyed in 24 cities. Blame Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth, their cheekbones, and their press tours.

The British accent was held to be the most ‘dateable? in the world, ranking up 26.7% of the vote. The American accent placed second at 8.7% with the Irish one coming in third place. At least we placed? The Australian and French accents followed. Here’s the top ten:

2. American (8.7%)

3. Irish (8.1%)

4. Australian (8%)

5. French (7.7%)

6. Italian (6%)

7. Spanish (4.9%)

8. Scottish (4.7%)

9. Latin American (4.1%)

10. Scandinavian (3.3%)

Although maybe the sexiest accent depends on the person uttering the sexy words?

This interview on Jimmy Fallon’s chat show with Jamie Dornan, who’s starring in a little movie called Fifty Shades of Grey out this weekend, shows the actor trying out the whole gamut of difficult accents, including Scottish, French and Cork. And reading out lines from the erotica novel. You really have to watch it.
