This spectacular home featured in the pages of Image Interiors & Living in 2015, after its owner completed a sensitive and considered renovation. Now they’re moving on, so this Monkstown home is on the market.

Situated at the end of a Victorian terrace of impressive homes in Monkstown, this redbrick home is in excellent condition, thanks to an extensive and sensitive restoration undertaken around five years ago. The owners say they were drawn to the house because of its intact period features, bright rooms, generously-proportioned rooms and a large garden.

They decided to tackle the restoration before moving in, enlisting the services of Wallace Contracting to undertake tasks such as rewiring, plumbing, central heating upgrades, and insulating the roof. Blacam and Meagher architects also worked on the basement kitchen to introduce more light into the space, by creating some new openings in the walls out to the garden.

The kitchen was also replaced at the time, save for the Aga, which provides a focal point for the room. The floors were relaid with stone, which, along with the tiles above the Aga, were sourced from Fired Earth.

The drawing room and library on the hall floor didn’t require any renovation, simply redecoration. Throughout, colours have been used that are sympathetic to the building’s history, but with a fresh nod to the contemporary.

With four bedrooms, the house would make a lovely family home. One bedroom is currently in use as a dressing room, with built-in wardrobes, giving flexibility to its new owners as to what they will use it for.

The rear, south-west facing garden is also a definite attraction. As a corner site, it is larger than those of the other properties on the terrace, and features a lawn framed by neat box hedging and a herb and vegetable garden. A studio unit in the garden fitted out with a kitchenette and bathroom also offers potential, and the front garden has parking for three cars.
