Necessity is the mother of invention…

With two rolls of gaffer tape, one roll of cling film and a shower curtain, a Dublin grandmother got her birthday wish over the weekend: a hug from her grandchildren.

Dublin stylist Jan Brierton proved that necessity is the mother of invention when she invented a device that allowed her mother to safely hug her grandchildren for the first time since the pandemic led to social distancing measures.

Brierton isn’t the first parent to come up with such an invention. Carly Marinaro from Rockford, Illinois, went viral last week after she built a “hug time” machine outside the home of her grandmother, 85-year-old Rose Gagnon.
