From film festivals and intimate live performances to Christmas markets, fairs and a very special IMAGE event, here’s the best of what’s on this weekend…

Quiet Lights

Quiet Lights is a well-loved winter festival with a big heart, which aims to shine a light on the new wave of Irish and international folk, traditional, and experimental talent that are quietly forging new paths, recollecting old tales, and creating new stories. For its fifth instalment, the line-up includes Cormac Begley, Lemoncello, Mohammad Syfkhan and Fionn Regan, as well as some exciting new projects such as Ana Palindrome, Morgana, and a fresh collaboration between Cormac McCarthy and Aoife Ní Bhriain.

Lukey Lukey x Maura Culbert: Paint, Create & Cosmos

Lukey Lukey’s first live event, hosted by founder Luke Nolan and Dublin-based artist Maura Culbert, invites you to create a signature Lukey Lukey dreamy sky painting with the artist behind the beautiful Irish make-up brand’s branding while sipping a perfectly blush pink Cosmo. You will also receive a limited edition print from Maura’s Carried Away collection, and while painting, you can have one-on-one consultations with Luke to decide which Dream Cheeks Blush shade you would like to take home with you as your gift.

Waterford Film Festival

The 18th Waterford International Film Festival will have live screenings and an online programme, networking opportunities and an awards presentation. Award-winning and Waterford-born actor Moe Dunford will be a guest judge at this year’s festival. Though the line-up is yet to be released, we’ve got high hopes for the festivities ahead.

Ballymaloe Craft Fair

With over 200 Irish craft and design exhibitors, the Ballymaloe Craft Fair offers a unique opportunity to support Irish suppliers and artisans ahead of the Christmas season. Discover a diverse range of unique, handmade Christmas gifts, decorations, and consumables. Plus, there’s a delicious line-up of food and drink offerings, from hot chocolate and mulled wine to a diverse range of food trucks!

Christmas Fayre

The annual fundraising Christmas Fayre returns to Saint Nicholas’ Collegiate Church for a fantastic family-friendly event. There’ll be live music, lots of stalls to browse through, children’s games, tea, coffee, and scones. Entry costs €3 for those over 12 years of age, and includes raffle entry for a hamper of McCambridge’s goodies.

Irish Surf Film Festival

23&24 November, Pálás, Galway, more info here

The Irish Surf Film Festival will showcase the immense talent that is on offer both in terms of wave riding and the documenting of wave riding in Ireland. This festival is a community-led event where the surf community and the wider public can get together in person in a large cinema screen. The main evening event will feature a short surf film competition, a surf photography competition, and also a wave of the year competition.

IFI French Film Festival

Now in its 25th year, the IFI French Film Festival is back, bringing the very best of new French cinema to Irish audiences. This year’s programme features over 35 French films, with options to suit every taste from drama to comedy, action to documentary, and thriller to animation. Read our guide to the festivities here.

IMAGE Business of Beauty Awards 2024

The 10th annual IMAGE Business of Beauty Awards will take place on Sunday as once again, we’ll set The Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road alight with colour, creativity and a night to remember. This year, we’re going back to the days of disco with our theme, so there’ll be no such thing as overdressed, overhyped or overstyled. You do you, and then go extra – whether that’s more glitter, bigger hair, crazy colours, massive moves or (best of all) a combination of the lot.
