All hail Amy Schumer. She’s funny, talented and doesn’t take any sort of nonsense from sexist interviewers. The Trainwreck actress met with two Australian radio hosts, Matt Tilley and Jane Hall of KIIS 101.1, and Tilley asked a few questions that did not sit well with Schumer. Things were going well enough, until one of the interviewers (Tilly) decided to call Amy’s Trainwreck character ‘skanky? (FYI never do that), and things invariably got worse from there. But not to worry, Amy was completely able to shut down the obviously sexist interviewer.
“Do you have the word skanky in America?” Tilley asked, which caused an unimpressed-looking Schumer to joke that he was thinking about his mother.
“Come on, that’s the character in the movie. I’m not trying to offend you,” he said.
But Schumer star wasn’t having it. “Whatever you are trying to do, you are. That’s a rude question,” she said.
Clearly, the guy just doesn’t know when to quit, as later on in the interview Tilley suggests that the movie’s plot ultimately focuses on finding a boyfriend over everything else (it doesn’t), which also offended Schumer. “I think you’re wrong,” she said. “I think the point is that she realises she’s hurting herself and the people around her.”
Tilly’s clearly mortified co-interviewer Jane Hill tried to step in and conduct the rest of the interview, but Schumer couldn’t really contain her disdain for the whole thing, and we can’t say we blame her.
In an attempt to smooth things over, Tilley then asked her what she plans on doing next with her career. “Would you rather do that and have stand-up as fun?” he asked.
“I want to do whatever I have to do to get another interview with you again,” she quipped sarcastically. Preach. ?Maybe I’ll just come by myself next time,? co-interviewer Hill said. Might be a good idea.
We love that Schumer was well able to take down the sexist interview questions (notice the female interviewer didn’t ask any ‘skanky? type questions, but instead praised Schumer for her work), in a very dignified manner. We just hate sexist interviews.
