Watch: Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Get Physical On Screen In New Movie

For the first time in ten years, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are set to re-unite on screen for Jolie’s latest directorial offering, By The Sea. A million miles away from their current reality, here they star as a deeply troubled married couple (though it’s nothing like Mr and Mrs Smith), who journey to a seaside resort in 1970s France, grappling with their marital issues along the way. Pitt plays Roland, a writer who appears to be content doing his own thing, while Jolie plays Vanessa, his miserable wife who spends her time sulking and contemplating life over their wasted, seaside view. The first trailer has just landed and it’s certainly piqued our interest. It’s more of a teaser than anything else, with very little dialogue, but we’re already dying to see more. What is it that Pitt’s character has done to earn a wincing slap across the face from Jolie’s Vanessa? While Mr and Mrs Smith was a very light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek affair, By The Sea promises to be brooding, intense and from what we’ve seen so far, truly captivating.

Angelina Jolie has continually impressed both critics and audiences alike with her directorial skills and we suspect this will add greatly to her growing body of work. We may even here rumblings of Oscar bells once?this hits our screens on December 11th.

In an interview with the DGA, Jolie explains how they had to draw from their personal experiences to create the tension we so palpably feel on screen: “I’d be directing myself and him in a scene where we’re having a fight, and I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other?it was very heavy… We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look.”
