Though we’ve come a long way, and society is indeed becoming more and more progressive, it’s still a rarity to come across a husband who takes his wife’s name after marriage. Most often, the woman will simply decide to stick with her own name, but for Zoe Saldana, it was a different story.
Zoe says she tried to talk her husband, Marco Perego, out of his decision to take her name. As a respected artist who’s known for his name, she assumed it would ’emasculate him’, but as she told InStyle in a recent interview, her fella was having none of it.
Would you expect your husband to take your surname? Would you like it if he did? And if it was his suggestion, would you, like Zoe, try to discourage him?
We think it’s a pretty sweet mark of respect, and a sign that we no longer need to pay heed to the male-dominated formalities of days gone by.
“I tried to talk him out of it,” Zoe said to InStyle about the man she married in 2013. “If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.”
The Italian sculptor simply responded by saying:?”Ah Zoe, I don’t give a shit.”
He sounds like a keeper, right?
