Pop singer Justin Bieber has triumphed at the MTV Europe Music Awards – leaving Taylor Swift?(surprisingly lagging behind) as he took home five gongs with Swift only nabbing two out of her nine nominations. ?The What Do You Mean singer won five awards in total, taking home Best Male, Best Worldwide Act: North America, Best Look, Best Collaboration and the Best Fans Award. Say what you want about the guy – he has released’some catchy tunes of late.
Bieber?beat off stiff competition in the Best Male category from the likes of Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Jason Derulo and the awards show’s host Ed Sheeran (who did a respectable job in the hosting hot seat and took home two awards). In terms of performances, Ellie Goulding’s was near perfect (though we were hoping she would belt out a new tune), and Sheeran was also mention-worthy in this regard. 80s pop crooners Duran Duran were honoured with the Visionary Video Award for influencing fellow musicians through?their unique music videos. It wasn’t exactly a memorable show (where’s Miley Cyrus when you need her), but we’re sure Bieber and his legions of fans went home happy.
