Kim Kardashian On Pregnancy Body Shaming: ?I Was Made Fun Of For Something I Couldn’t Control?
29th Aug 2015
As she lives life in the public eye, Kim Kardashian will be the first to admit that she’s used to dealing with criticism. The reality star has said she owes much of her career and success to social media, and, as a result, allows us normal folk a glimpse into the most private moments of her life. Her pregnancy with first-born daughter North West was one of these. But while she was happy to talk about her pregnancy and post pictures of her growing baby bump, she has said she was unprepared for the onslaught of scrutiny as she gained weight during her pregnancy.
As she prepares for baby number two, Mrs Kardashian-West has spoken out about how she found it incredibly hard to cope with this. At the time in 2013, Kardashian explained she was suffering from a medical condition, which caused her to bloat and gain excess weight. “As of right now, I don’t feel like I’m gonna get preeclampsia again,” she told US Weekly. “Which last time [contributed to] not only the weight but also the swelling that everyone would make fun of, not understanding that I had this condition.”

Kardashian said the constant taunting and criticism was one of the worst experiences she’s ever had. – It was the worst! I couldn’t help it, and everyone would say, ‘She can’t stop eating? or ?She’s getting dumped because she’s too fat’ and all these ridiculous stories. It really took a toll.”
So much so, she admitted it changed her as a person. Ever wondered why she rarely smiles in a photograph? ?It changed the way I viewed wanting my picture taken,” she explained. “Before I was always smiling, and so into being out and about. After I had the baby, I was like, ‘These are the same people that made fun of me, and posted the stories that were so awful, calling me fat for something I couldn’t control.'”
“I thought ‘I don’t want to smile for them. I don’t want to be out,'” Kardashian continued. “Even if I was more confident, I just didn’t feel like being that girl who was going to be smiling for every photo. It changed my mood; it changed who I was; it changed my personality a lot.”
Kardashian isn’t the first celebrity to speaking publically about pregnancy body shaming. Actress and model Jamie King, who recently gave birth to second son Leo, said she was victim to similar comments from strangers who thought she was “too thin” during her term.
Kardashian said she accepted that social media left her venerable to such attacks, but that it was still hard to take. ?It can be hard on your soul when you are so scrutinised.”
