It looks like the streets of the fashion capitals have been struck by yellow fever. Saturated shades of yellow?are some of the hottest hues to be seen in this season, so we’re stealing a few’sartorial secrets from some of our favourite street style stars.
The smart way to make yellow look grown-up rather than girlie? Choose it in a utilitarian fabric such as leather. The tough luxe fabric and unfussy silhouette of this dress balance out the colour’s childlike rubber-ducky associations.
Give this sunshine shade a preppy twist. The bomber jacket and metallic brogues elevate these yellow cropped jeans from cutesy to urban cool. The navy base colour of the bomber adds a kind of no-nonsense depth to the look – a paler coloured jacket could’make the entire outfit look insipid.
Choose’structural shapes. They look unexpected in citrus shades and sober up this confectionary colour. The lace and sheer detailing here also dilutes down the vibrancy of this primary colour.
Use yellow to add a touch of playfulness to an otherwise restrained outfit. Any more of these fabulous feathers and we’d be thinking Big Bird rather than cool girl. But the balance here is just right. An understated white T-shirt?can take a bit of craziness.
Embrace your inner Bohemian with a yellow dress. This floral trimmed dress coat creates a great contrast with the traditionally corporate navy pinstripes around the neckline and cuffs. We’d ditch the furry boots and pair contrasting coloured heels instead.
Colour block fire-engine red and yellow submarine-style brights. The nude embellished heels worn here are the perfect pairing with an outfit that warrants all the limelight. The juxtaposition of the collarless structured shirt and floaty pleated skirt works so well too.
