Karl Lagerfeld has chosen Kristen Stewart to take on the role of Madame Chanel herself, in a short film to be shown at the Chanel M?tiers d’Arts show in Rome on 1st December. While Stewart wouldn’t have perhaps been an obvious first choice for the role, she is a front-row regular at the shows and Lagerfeld is a huge fan of hers.
Stewart will play Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in a fictional, behind the scenes teaser for a yet to be made biopic of the iconic founder of the French fashion house. The film was directed by Karl Lagerfeld over two days in Luc Besson’s studio in Paris last month. The Chanel creative director also developed everything surrounding the short film himself.
According to WWD, Lagerfeld said Stewart, best known for the ?Twilight? series and her recent turn in ?Still Alice was perfect for the role. ?She played it really, really mean,? he said. ?You only see her in tests and she’s complaining about everything. She’s mean with the director; mean with the producer.? So it seems the role was a match made in heaven for the sultry actress.
Much of the movie takes place in the office of the would-be film’s producer, and a corridor. Lagerfeld conceived the plot, dialogue, costumes and casting, also roping in Harper’s Bazaar editor Laura Brown to portray an American journalist. ?They make so many movies about Chanel, why can’t I make one?? he said.
We’ll be looking forward to seeing Stewart in the film and of course, those amazing Chanel clothes.
