3 Irish Gals Top Best Dressed List At The National Television Awards

See More Photos
Unlike the Oscars, the National Television Awards do little to excite us in the sartorial department. Extreme contouring and what they describe in the beauty business as ‘Instagram make-up’ have remained prominent trends over the last few years, as are sparkles, an offensive shade of purple, plenty of boob action and midriffs.

Representing the Emerald Isle this year, however, we’re going to go right ahead and name Vogue Williams, Laura Whitmore and Angela Scanlon as the undisputed best-dressed gals of the whole affair. Donned in fashion-forward ensembles that reflect the times we live in (as opposed to the smattering of debs-like dresses circa 2004), these three women turn heads for all the right reasons. Whitmore wore a Maria Grachvogel number while Vogue went for an Irish designer, Shauna Harrison. And we adore Angela Scanlon’s technicolour Giles Deacon mini dress?that offsets her copper locks to perfection.

Elswhere, props to Graham Norton for dressing like a Quality Street sweet and somehow making it work, and to Aidan Turner for making us swoon. Other red carpet appearances that have us chit-chatting this morning were Katie Price (loving her bun, aren’t you?), Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams (she can do no wrong in our eyes) and Emma Willis who’s inspiring all kinds of #PregnancyGoals with that plunging neckline and subtle, floral print. And #BeautyGoals too, while we’re at it.

And then there were those that make us say ‘what were you thinking?’ Lady Colin Campbell was dressed like an extra from The Princess Diaries/The Witches (she wore an actual crown and had some sort of animal hide in tow). Then we have Leigh Francis?whose suit is enough to bring on a bout of nausea. Arlene Phillips meant well but alas, the only look she’s channeling is that of Sleeping Beauty’s Flora, Fauna or Merryweather. Lastly, Maddy Hill seems to have mistaken the awards ceremony for flight attendants’ conference. That scarf; we have no words.
