Femininity and Romance. Two words that can eloquently sum up Irish designer Simone Rocha’s SS16 collection showcased at London Fashion Week yesterday. She also played with textures – plastic cord was woven into bodices over feather-light tulle – and the humble jelly shoe was elevated for a more glamorous wear and studded with diamant?. Jelly shoes it seems, will make a comeback for SS16. Rocha’s signature style has always been hyper-feminine clothing, but with a distinct edge. For this collection, she featured her usual bout of the sweet, pretty dresses she is known and loved for, overlaid with crocheted bodices that often sprouted ropes from behind. We also love her use of over-sized, glamorous accessories; earrings and the occasional clutch added those much-needed finishing touches. In terms of colour, we get a mesh of sheer pinks, white and a more sombre black added to the mix, but the collection in its entirety feels fresh, sweet and is classic Rocha.
