Rethink the shades you style with 2020’s fashion colour codes

Rethink the shades you style with 2020’s fashion colour codes

Injecting new-season freshness into your wardrobe can be as simple as rethinking which shades you style together.

Pale pink and baby blue

For pastel lovers everywhere, this gentle mix of blanket-soft shades will appeal to your inner romantic. Designers such as Chanel and Ralph & Russo created dreamy ensembles of diaphanous fabrics that conjured up images of old Hollywood glamour. The modernists among you may prefer Carolina Herrera’s approach, however: a smart, striped shirt-dress.

Green on green

Mint is one of SS20’s most dominant shades, and the way to wear it is layered over complementary shades of green. Tibi created drama by mixing mint with earthy, moss green, while Emporio Armani took a softer, but no less impactful, approach. When styling shades from the same colourway, always incorporate a variety of textures to prevent the look from falling flat.

Yellow and cobalt

Punchy and perfect for making a statement, yellow and cobalt screams, “Here comes the sun”. Colour-blocking is a great way to add interest to simple, well-cut tailoring, and it immediately adds personality and individuality to a look. My only warning is to carefully choose the shade of yellow that best suits your skin tone.

Red and burgundy

A winning combination whatever the season, red and burgundy are classic companions. From Irish designer Sharon Wauchob to heritage brand Coach, the catwalks were awash with warm shades of ruby through to raspberry in sophisticated silhouettes. We especially love Coach’s oxblood leather trench coat.
