We sat down with Anine Bing ahead of the release of her Helena Christensen collaboration
12th Nov 2020
The effortless Anine Bing x Helena Christensen collection is inspired by 90s supermodel style and a touch of “festive allure”. We sat down with Bing and picked our favourite pieces from the collection.
Anine Bing was born in Denmark, raised in Sweden, and now lives in LA. She is genuine mix of Scandi chic and LA cool, and so is her eponymous label. Her basics are much loved in Ireland, and the practical pieces she creates complement even the most minimalist of wardrobes. Her latest collection is a collaboration with 90s supermodel and photographer Helena Christensen. It’s inspired by Christensen’s 90s style and a touch of “festive allure”. So pretty much the dream for right now. The black silk jumpsuit (see below) in particular has us longing for Christmas parties, red lips and cold glasses of bubbles.
The first drop from the limited-edition, 10-piece Anine Bing x Helena Christensen collection is available now, and if you are looking for an investment piece, there are so many to choose from. I sat down (virtually) with Anine to hear about trends, simplifying your wardrobe and the off-duty model style.
Anine, we are huge fans of ANINE BING here at Image. So firstly, congrats on creating clothes that help Irish women feel chic, cool, and still comfortable and like ourselves. Is that what you have always aimed for with ANINE BING?
Thank you, that is so kind of you to say.
Empowering women to look and feel their best when they get dressed has been our goal since we started the company over 8 years ago. We always want to design clothing that is an investment in her wardrobe, clothing that she can feel comfortable and confident in and has the longevity to remain in her wardrobe as she develops in her life.
We love the simplicity of your collections; white tees, sweaters, good jeans, and leather jackets. Tell us about the importance of basics for you.
When I first started the brand, it was so important for us to create quality designs, for me personally I always struggled to find jeans that fit perfectly so this was a starting point for the brand. I believe if you get the foundations right within your basics, you already have a head start when it comes to styling your outfits for whatever you have planned.
Do you think trends distract women and complicate their wardrobes?
It’s so important to have the right core items in your wardrobe before playing around with trends. Style is all about expressing your personality throughout your clothing, so I encourage people to play with trends to find their style. But having the right basics such as a crisp white t-shirt, black structured blazer and well-fitted jeans, is a great starting point.
We love that Anine Bing is more accessible than other, more expensive brands. What is the classic piece to invest in this season?
A leather jacket or blazer is always a good investment!
Tell us about your collection with Helena Christensen.
Helena is such an iconic supermodel and I’ve always admired her work. When I found out she was a fan of the brand, we were excited to meet. Working with Helena on this capsule collection has been so much fun—we’ve taken some classic styles from the ’90s and added a modern twist with a bit of edge. I have always embraced the off-duty model style which Helena does so well.
Who is your biggest muse?
I have so many! I find inspiration from all different industries such as photographers, music and female friends to places and people all over the world. Coco Chanel and Kate Moss to name a few.
