Want to keep the kids entertained over the coming months? Here are five of the best online summer camps for children and teenagers
Summers of yore were always filled with summer camps and activities for kids.
Unfortunately, this year’s landscape is a lot different. However, thanks to technology and Zoom there is a myriad of online camps taking place meaning they are accessible for children across the country.
From science to music to French, the kids and teens won’t be found twiddling their thumbs.
Here are six of the best to book a place with over the coming weeks.
Anyone 4 Science
Anyone 4 Science was created in 2005 to provide fun, hands-on science and engineering activities. Events would usually take place across the country, however, this year is a little different. The camp will be provided exclusively online in two formats. One will take place on Facebook Live for seven to 12-year-olds (€40) and the other will be on Zoom (€60) which will cater for seven to 12-year-olds and 13-16 year-olds. A pack of materials for experiments will be sent out to each student before the camp begins.

Starcamp
For kids who love music, singing and dancing, this online summer camp is perfect. Children of all ages can enjoy dancing to Dance Monkey, learning magic tricks, news reporting and comedy. Similar to the format of RTÉ’s Home School Hub, the camp will take place from Monday, July 13 to Friday, July 17, for 90 minutes each day. The cost is €30 for the week. Find out more here.
The Academy of Code
The Academy of Code runs coding and technology classes for children and teenagers. Due to the pandemic, they have moved all of their coding summer camps online. There are classes to suit everyone from beginners to expert coders. There are weekly classes or a four-day one-hour option. One week costs €69, while the term costs €119 for 10 weeks of classes.
Inspireland
Inspireland is offering summer tutorials in stop motion, claymation, pixelation, illustration, street art, mask making, collage, graphics, creative writing, sculpture, model making, book craft and puppetry. There is a kids’ camp for eight to 12 year-olds and a teens’ camp for those aged 13 to 18. Materials needed will be sent out to each participant before camp starts. Alliance Française summer camps
French summer camps are being offered by Alliance Française through its online learning platform and Zoom. For children aged four to 10, one-week summer camps will be offered throughout June, July and August. While for teenagers, two-week camps will be up for grabs. The cost is €69 for kids and €209 for teens. Find out more here.
Whizzkids

WhizzKids online summer camps will offer one hour live lessons each day and unlimited access to the WhizzKids Online Academy where kids can complete additional ‘Avatar’ led lessons, quizzes and challenges. Three different virtual camp options are available: introduction to coding, 3D game development and web design. The cost is €50 for one week of lessons or €80 for annual academy membership with 20 courses. Book a place here.
The Ark
For over 25 years, The Ark has been a place where children can discover and love the arts, exploring theatre, music, literature, art, film, dance and more. As The Ark works towards reopening its building on Eustace Street when it is safe to do so, the team is committed to creating high-quality arts experiences for children during this time.
