Dublin City Council will open all playgrounds today, in reversal of original Phase Two plans

Dublin City Council will open all playgrounds today, in reversal of original Phase Two plans

Dublin City Council had previously said that playgrounds would remain closed across the city

Playgrounds across Dublin will reopen to the public today, as the city council reverses their original plans for them to remain closed.

Last week, Dublin City Council said that playgrounds would not open without supervision, despite the government advising that playgrounds could reopen if safe to do so.

Deputy Chief Executive Brendan Kenny had said that there are no supervised playgrounds in Dublin city, suggesting this may have been a reason they would not re-open.

However, having had clarification from the government per last Friday’s announcement, the council will reopen playgrounds across Dublin from today.

On Friday, Minister for Health Simon Harris suggested measures such as regular cleaning of equipment as a way for playgrounds to reopen safely to the public.

“Local authorities will make different decisions in relation to this, but I will appeal to them all to try to open as many as is safely possible to open. It’s been a long number of months for families,” he said.
